Specialist Neuro-development Physiotherapy for Kids in Birmingham.

Specialist Neuro-development Physiotherapy for Kids in Birmingham.

We have had so many parents ask us whether we could help their child that we have developed a new service in the clinic to serve the families of our community and the wider West Midlands area.

Our new specialist service is led by NHS clinical specialist in paediatric physiotherapy Fiona Shackleford. Fiona has worked in the West Midlands treating children aged 0-16 specialising in developmental delay and neuromuscular conditions particularly cerebral palsy since 2000 and works with some of the leading consultants in this area.

Fiona’s work in the Harborne clinic at Barefoot will focus on helping children with cerebral palsy, selective dorsal rhizotomy, spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, spina Bifida and hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies.

Fiona will also see children with developmental delay where kids aren’t meeting significant developmental milestones and also children with autism related conditions and those with dyspraxia who may have clumsy or awkward movements.

She will also see children with hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome whose symptoms may become more apparent with a growth spurt or a change in sporting activity.

Fiona is passionate about the field of paediatrics and is excited to be able to bring this speciality to our physiotherapy clinic at Barefoot in Harborne.

When not at work Fiona enjoys spending time with her 2 children, in particular supporting them in their sporting activities and most weekends she can be found on the side-lines of football pitches or in dance studios cheering them on.

Fiona will be in clinic on Fridays and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about how she can help your child.
